Caterina Crucitti

Caterina was educated at several regional and city Catholic Schools, including Mercedes and Aranmore and she obtained her Tertiary Qualifications from WAIT and Curtin University as well as Notre Dame University.  At WAIT/Curtin University, Caterina’s major studies was in Accounting with major focus on Business Law, Company Law, and other related areas.  Caterina spent a total of 15 years studying at Curtin University and obtained her Master of Business from Curtin in 1989 which was then followed by a six month around the world holiday visiting many counties including her birth town, Castellace in Reggio Calabria, Sothern Italy.

Caterina's interest and studies in Accounting, Business Law, Company Law, Legal Studies, Business Communications and related areas gained her various roles and positions within both the public and private sectors as a Corporate Services Law Clerk and Investigator/Compliance Analyst with: KPMG Peat Marwick Mitchell (2 years), Mallesons Stephen Jaques (7 years), Freehill Hollingdale and Page (3 years), the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (12 years) and the Corporate Affairs Department (now the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection) (2 years).

Caterina commenced lecturing in the areas of Law including Legal Studies, Legal Framework, Business Law, Company Law and Property Law in January 1989.  Caterina Lectured and Tutored at Central TAFE, the Australian Institute of University Studies (AIUS) – Joondalup, Edith Cowan University (ECU) – Joondalup and Churchland’s Campuses as well as Curtin University mainstream and within the Uniready Enabling Program. The subjects included Business Law, Commercial Law, Commercial and Civic Principles, Equity Law and Property Law.  Additionally, since its inception in 1989, Caterina was a founding Lecturer and Key Presenter in Company Law, Business Law and Business Communications for the Legal Assistants Training Course that is conducted by the Law Society of Western Australia for 20 years.

At Notre Dame University, Caterina from 1 January 2000 until 4th December 2020 was a Senior Lecturer for both the School of Business and the School of Arts and Sciences.  For the School of Business, Caterina was the sole Senior Lecturer, Tutor and Course Co-Ordinator for Business Law, Company Law, and International Business Law.  In addition, for the School of Arts and Sciences, Caterina Lectured and Tutored as well as being the Course Co-Ordinator in several Legal Studies units, namely Introduction to Legal Studies, Law and the Media, Law and Criminal Justice, Law and Indigenous Rights and Law and the Government.  During her 21 years at Notre Dame University Caterina consistently attained excellence teaching evaluations and was the recipient of letters of commendation from the Vice Chancellor.  On the 6th of April 2004, Caterina was awarded the Inaugural Outstanding Lecturer Award by the Student Association at Notre Dame University, as well as the National Unijobs Lecturer of the Year at the University of Notre Dame in 2011.

Caterina has been involved in several Academic Projects and Reviews for Academic Publishers: Pearson Education Australia.  Caterina has reviewed and prepared the PowerPoint’s to accompany the Instructor’s Manual for Business Law and published by Pearson Education Australia.  The textbook and the Instructor’s Resources CD-ROM including the PowerPoint’s won a Nationwide award in 2005 for the best Tertiary Instructors Manual for which Caterina’s contribution was acknowledged.  She is also the author of an online Business Law textbook Business Law Now! and accompanying supplemental materials.

Caterina considers herself to be a perfectionist and a well organised person, to enable her to have a balanced family and work life during her careers in both the public, private, and academic sectors.
